The College of Agriculture, Badnapur dist. Jalna has been established in the year 2000 as a constituent college of Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani. The Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry came into existence in 2000 with the establishment of College of Agriculture Parbhani. The postgraduate degree M.Sc. (Agri.) started in the discipline of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry (Ref: MCAER/Education-1/2213/1082 Dated 04 June 2013 and MCAER/Education-1/87th Meeting/713/690/2013 dated 30.03.2013). However, with the introduction of post graduate education during 2013-14, research activities extended cutting across the different sub disciplines with major emphasis on soil fertility and plant nutrition with subsequent strengthening of infrastructure facilities for undergraduate and post graduate teaching. Laboratory equipped with sophisticated equipment’s at present catering the need of research and for soil and plant analysis programme .

Objectives

1. To impart undergraduate and post graduate instructions.

2. To undertake post graduate students research and train the young scientists in agriculture research.

3. To carry out basic and strategic research on soil and in priority areas for overall development of agricultural research in the Marathwada region.

4. To provide technical guidance to the farming community on soil health and water management for sustainable agricultural production.

5. To train the rural youths and encourage them for self-employment and agricultural entrepreneurship amongst students.

6. To disseminate Agricultural production and soil health improvement technologies through extension activities.

Teaching

The section head is an overall in-charge of the department under and postgraduate teaching and research are fully integrated in this department with the help of academic staff of the faculty. The teaching programme of the department includes courses of B.Sc. (Agri) and M.Sc. in soil science. The under graduate curriculum is as per the recommendation of fifth deans committee constituted in 2017. The instructional programme of post-graduation’s restructured as per ICAR pattern. The department has accommodated 12 credits of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry for Agriculture graduation.
